Unlike in Australia , stinging nettle (known as “allo” in Nepal) in Nepal is not a weed and actually grows at altitude on the side of mountains and helps stabilise them from landslides ! It also has the longest fibre in its species in the world and is therefore used for all sorts of practical things, like making fishing nets, baskets and accessories like scarves and shawls. It looks like it would be course and itchy on the skin , but in fact it’s the oppositive and will only soften more with time and washing. These beautiful scarves are handmade using 4 needles and is as natural as it comes. Because of this, each scarf will be slightly different and imperfections are not faults, they are the nature of the shawl. Choose from scarf size or larger wrap size.
