Morocco is a land that is geographically diverse and also rich in culture. Throughout the history of Morocco, various people migrated and settled in this vast land including Arabs, Moors and Jewish tribes. This vintage berber rug is quite rare and has a jewish influence in its design.
The beauty of this rug is that it will sit easily in a modern home just as it did in the home of the weaver who created it. The colours and patterns in this rug are as unique as the weaver who created it.
Because this rug is old, the "pile side" is quite different to the "flat weave side". The hues of the pile side are soft and subtle. Turn it onto the reverse flat weave side and the colours are darker and closer to the original palette. To get a real sense of the rug tthey are best viewed in store.
PILE SIDE: shaggy and earthy desert clay/sand/red tones. Brown/cream motif runs down the middle of the rug and boarder. Part of the boarder pattern has greenish/grey tones, reflective of the blue tones on the flat weave side. The main colour on the flat weave side is red tones, accounting for the way the colour has faded on the pile side to be a desert clay colour.
FLAT WEAVE SIDE: brown, blue and red colours.
